Over the past few weeks, our Tech Reuse Programme has really started to take shape. Importantly, this week has been a powerful reminder of why we started it in the first place.
What began as a simple idea now actively helps children, families, and individuals stay connected and supported. By giving unused laptops a second life, we reduce waste and help people at the same time
What Is the Tech Reuse Programme?
The Tech Reuse Programme is a community-led initiative run by Simple Home Solutions.
We collect donated laptops and devices, securely wipe all data, and prepare them for reuse. As a result, people who genuinely need access to technology can use reliable devices for education, communication, and everyday life.
Importantly, the programme focuses on people first. Every device goes to a real person with a real need
This Week’s Impact
This week, the programme delivered several positive outcomes across the community.
For example:
We provided a laptop to a nine-year-old child, supporting schoolwork at home
We helped a lady living on her own stay connected with family and services
A teaching assistant arranged to collect a device for their work
We received new requests from:
A family in South London needing devices for their children
Someone requesting a laptop for their mum
As a result, more people now have access to essential technology.
Community Support Is Driving This Forward
Community support continues to drive this programme forward.
Earlier this week, someone we met at a local networking event offered up to 10 devices for donation. Because of contributions like this, the programme can grow and help more people each month.
In addition, we are now in early conversations about donating devices to the Brain Injury Department at Northwick Park Hospital. This would allow the programme to support recovery and wellbeing in a clinical setting.
How Donated Devices Are Handled
We treat every donated device with care and responsibility.
First, we securely wipe all existing data. Next, we reset and test each laptop to ensure it works properly. Where appropriate, we configure devices to be simple, fast, and reliable.
Finally, we match each device to a genuine request. Therefore, donors can trust that their data remains safe and recipients receive equipment ready to use.
Donations and Requests Are Both Welcome
The Tech Reuse Programme works because the community gets involved.
If you have an unused laptop or Mac, we can securely wipe it and give it a second life. Likewise, if you or someone you care for needs a device, you are welcome to get in touch.
Meanwhile, we continue to receive both donations and requests each week, which helps the programme remain active and responsive.
Any laptops that we can't use or phones or tablets that are donated will be donated to Voluntary Action Harrow and their Sustain IT programme.
Looking Ahead
The programme continues to grow steadily.
Every week brings new opportunities to help, new conversations, and new ways to support the community. Importantly, even a single device can make a meaningful difference to someone’s daily life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Tech Reuse Programme so far. Together, we are turning unused technology into real-world impact.
